Why go on a language study trip to Ireland? Quite simply, a language study trip in an environment where English is spoken in everyday life is a booster for language skills and motivation to learn. Although Irish (the Celtic Irish Gaelic) is officially promoted in Ireland and many street and place signs greet you first in this language, English is the most widely spoken language in Ireland and also the most common mother tongue among the population.

  • Dublin: In the lively and diverse capital of the Republic of Ireland and one of the oldest university cities in the world, all the sights and shopping areas are within walking distance and the nearest pub or music venue is never far away.
  • Cork: Located on the south coast, Ireland's second largest city is known for its lively jazz, film and folk scene and is close to unique natural landscapes such as Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry.
  • Galway: The charming university city on the west coast of Ireland with its colorful mix of houses, numerous galleries and pubs in the alleyways of the old town is considered the gateway to the unspoiled landscapes of Connemara. And if you prefer a quieter pace, you can simply relax on the nearby sandy beaches of Salthill after your language course.

Irish language schools offer well-organized English language stays with half-day or full-day courses for different age groups. There are shorter language courses and long-term courses, courses focused on communication or business English, as well as comprehensive English courses in preparation for an international language diploma. As a rule, the language schools also organize accommodation in a hall of residence or with a family connection in Irish host families.

Einzelne Kurse, wie etwa Business-Kurse, richten sich vorrangig an Personen über 25 Jahren, was jedoch variieren kann. Für viele Sprachkurse müssen Sie bereits einige Vorkenntnisse in der englischen Sprache besitzen. Es gibt jedoch selbstverständlich auch Anfängerkurse, die sich an Personen ganz ohne Englischkenntnisse richten, vor allem im Bereich Jugendreisen. Some language schools only offer host family accommodation, which is the most recommendable option in terms of price and language. However, you can usually also choose other types of accommodation, such as shared flats, rooms on campus and in student residences, hotels, apartments and studios. Please bear in mind, however, that meals are usually only included in the price and organized for host families and that you are self-catering with the other alternatives.

Nachdem Sie sich für einen Sprachkurs angemeldet haben, erhalten Sie von einigen Sprachschulen einen Einstufungstest zugeschickt, den Sie zuhause bearbeiten oder online ablegen können. Diesen sollten Sie immer ohne Hilfsmittel und Unterstützung durchführen, damit Sie sicher sein können, auch einem Englischkurs zugewiesen zu werden, der Ihrem Leistungsniveau entspricht und in dem Sie bestmöglich lernen können. Doch nicht jede Schule, die Sprachreisen nach Irland anbieten, senden ihre Einstufungstests vor Kursbeginn zu. Sehr häufig werden diese am ersten Kurstag von allen neuen Sprachschülern vor Ort abgelegt, die anschliessend den entsprechenden Klassen zugeteilt werden. So ist auch das Wissen, das Sie sich möglicherweise in den letzen Wochen vor Kursbeginn angeeignet haben, bei der Niveauermittlung berücksichtigt.
Sprachschulen in Irland bieten in der Regel verschiedene Sprachkurse an, unter denen die Sprachschüler auswählen können. Dies müssen Sie bereits bei der Buchung entscheiden, da dies zum einen eine Frage der Organisation und zum anderen der Kosten ist. Standardkurse werden meist von allen Sprachschulen angeboten, die etwa 4 Lektionen Unterricht pro Tag umfassen. Auch Intensivkurse können Sie im Normalfall bei Sprachreisen nach Irland buchen, die bis zu 30 Lektionen in der Woche aufweisen können, also 6 Lektionen pro Tag. Da jede Sprachschule ihre Kurse selbständig definiert, kann es jedoch selbstverständlich vorkommen, dass bei einer Schule ein Intensivkurs 20 Lektionen pro Woche à 45 Minuten haben kann, während dieser bei einer anderen irischen Sprachschule 25 Lektionen à 60 Minuten beinhaltet. Schauen Sie sich daher immer genau die Dauer und Anzahl der Lektionen an, um die Angebote vergleichen zu können. Auch Diplomkurse, die Sie auf englische Sprachprüfungen vorbereiten, sind sehr beliebt und haben meist eine ebensolche Dauer wie Intensivkurse.

Für welchen Sprachkurs Sie sich entscheiden, hängt dementsprechend damit zusammen, wie viel Zeit Sie pro Woche und Tag innerhalb eines Englischsprachkurses verbringen möchten und damit, welches Ziel Sie verfolgen, zum Beispiel ein Sprachdiplom oder die Verbesserung des Business-English. Haben Sie sich für eines dieser Modelle entscheiden, können Sie sich nun überlegen, welche Kursvariante Sie wünschen – Gruppe, Minigruppe, Einzelunterricht oder Kombinationskurse bestehend aus Einzel- und Gruppenunterricht. Auch Ihr Sprachniveau hat Einfluss auf die Wahl eines geeigneten Sprachkurses bei Sprachreisen nach Irland. So können Sie als Englisch-Sprachanfänger nicht an Business-Kursen teilnehmen, da meist Niveau B1 oder B2 vorausgesetzt wird. Auch werden nicht an jeder Schule alle Niveaustufen für alle Kursmodelle angeboten, so dass Sie dies bei Ihrer Suche bedenken sollten.
