Marte Meo: Training, further education, courses, information and schools at a glance

Around 1980, the Dutchwoman Maria Aarts developed the innovative and successful educational counseling method Marte Meo. In her day-to-day work, she noticed that the usual informative discussions with parents and educators were not having much effect and that it was difficult to convey scientific findings in such a way that they could be absorbed and implemented in everyday life. She attributed this mainly to the abstract pedagogical terminology used by laypeople. She developed and tested a concept that we are familiar with today from programs such as "Die Supernanny" etc.: she recorded everyday incidents between educators and children on video and then discussed them with them. During the discussion, the focus was then deliberately placed on the existing strengths of the individual in order to emphasize them. This gave the educators and parents enormous strength to actively solve difficult situations and educational problems. The optimization of communication between parents or educators and children as well as the use of conscious, development-supporting elements of experience played an important role.
