Who are job coaches? What do they do?

Job coaches are coaches with a specialization. In general, coaches support and accompany their clients (so-called coachees) in various areas, stages and situations of life. To this end, they conduct personal discussions and suitable tests with their coachees in coaching sessions without immediately presenting them with suitable solutions. Instead, coaches use their work to promote the self-help skills of their coachees.

Job coaches for work integration work with people whose integration or retention in the general labor market is difficult for various reasons. Their clients include people with physical and mental difficulties, (addiction) illness, long-term unemployment, as well as people in prison or on social welfare.

The aim of job integration job coaches is to enable affected people to access the job market and secure their long-term employment. In personal meetings, the interests, weaknesses and strengths of the coachees are identified in relation to the requirements of the job market and suitable measures are developed together, for example an application strategy. Job integration job coaches are in close contact with employers and other relevant stakeholders and try to mediate between the interests of all parties involved.

The term job coach is generally used not only for graduates of the professional examination, but also for coaches who, for example, advise people who are well integrated in the labor market but want to reorient themselves professionally.

Job coaches for work integration, on the other hand, focus on the (re)integration of people who are disadvantaged on the labor market.
