Hypnotherapy training: Experience report by Claudia Manzini-Egger, President of the international GTH - reaching the deeply relaxed state of hypnosis more quickly with autogenic training

Tell us about your background.

My name is Claudia Manzini-Egger. I am a lecturer and teaching analyst. I am also a GTH Depth Psychological-Analytical Hypnotherapist, GTH Autogenic Training Seminar Leader and have a Master of Arts in Consciousness Studies (USA, Akamai University). I am one of the founders of GTH Switzerland and also President of the International GTH.

Who is behind GTH Switzerland?

The founder of GTH is Werner J. Meinhold, who has been active both in the practice and research of hypnotherapy. As a hypnosis researcher and author, he has written numerous specialist books in the field of hypnosis and consciousness expansion - including the standard work "The Great Handbook of Hypnosis". His greatest life's work, however, is the development of "Hypno-Integrative Depth Psychology Therapy" (H.I.T.T.®), which combines hypnology, depth psychology and a meaning-oriented holistic view of the world and man (body-mind-spirit).

What are the visions/goals of GTH Switzerland in general?

The visions and goals of GTH Switzerland in hypnotherapy are as follows:

  • Research:
    • Possibilities and limits of hypnosis and hypnotherapy
    • Research using scientific and empirical methods
  • Training and further education in the field of depth psychological hypnosis - especially for people working in the medical and other healthcare professions
  • To further develop the application of depth psychological hypnosis through research, further training and public relations work and thus to promote the salutogenesis of society
  • Counteracting the misuse of hypnosis

What kind of hypnosis training courses do you offer?

The hypnotherapy form H.I.T.T.® enables clients to recognize and work through unconsciously defended areas of their life history themselves and to integrate them into their overall personality. The aim is to achieve health in the sense of the Greek "holon" for wholeness. The hypnotherapy training to become a "Depth Psychological-Analytical Hypnotherapist GTH" includes two methods: focal analysis in hypnosis and life analysis in hypnosis. Both methods are deliberately based on autogenic training, as the two techniques can also be combined later: Hypnotherapy is particularly effective when the insights of hypnosis are additionally deepened with a trance state. This also has to do with the formation of engrams in the brain.

What distinguishes your training from other hypnosis training courses?

In my opinion, it is the depth of the training that makes the difference to other hypnosis training courses. We want the students to recognize how deep this form of hypnotherapy goes. It is important to us that students realize from the outset that we are dealing with people and their entire life story. It is important that these people can develop themselves in a conscious way through our support and hypnotherapy. In my opinion, this is only possible if our therapists internalize these depths themselves, be it with the theory, and even more so with the personal teaching analysis, and live them on a daily basis. After all, support in hypnotherapy can only go as deep and as far as the hypnotherapist himself or herself has gone!

Who is this hypnosis training particularly suitable for?

Hypnosis training is particularly suitable for the following people:

  • For people who feel that there is more to it than just additional training in hypnotherapy.
  • For people who feel that we, as beings, are profound and always evolving.
  • For people who have already completed a therapeutic degree and are looking for deeper horizons.
  • People who want to explore the human psyche, including its connection with the body and mind
  • People who would like to consciously develop themselves further and thus also accompany other people with hypnotherapy.

What are the requirements for hypnotherapy training?

There are the following requirements for hypnosis therapy training:

  • Sufficient inner stability to be able to go into the depths
  • Openness to face your own processes that happen during hypnotherapy training and want to deal with them
  • Like to work in depth and actively participate
  • They think with you instead of thinking about you

Why should you learn hypnotherapy? Why work with H.I.T.T.® in hypnosis?

In our opinion, it is only through hypnosis that we can reach the deeper levels of the unconscious and promote long-term and fulfilling development. In a hypnotic state, the evaluative "functions" of the ego recede into the background so that the person can truly feel and recognize themselves. Through hypnotherapy, people can thus recognize themselves in essence and live from within themselves.

What do participants learn for their work in hypnosis therapy?

At the heart of our hypnotherapy process is the advanced developmental theory. When participants learn and recognize how people develop from (and before) conception, how imprints arise, what effect they have and why they "hide" in the unconscious, it becomes clear to them why hypnosis is the right instrument for this. It is important to me that the participants learn to recognize, to "see", not simply learn a method by heart. People are not machines, each person is unique and it is therefore important that the participant understands and internalizes this from the outset.
It is important to us that we can guarantee a hypnosis therapy session that remains as free as possible from unconscious influence. This is why the teaching analysis is important in hypnotherapy. The therapy is experienced in itself. The theoretical foundations are internalized through the individual experience, the subjective perception is expanded and thus also the openness, which will allow the therapists to accept people in hypnotherapy without bias. Authenticity is another important prerequisite: if the hypnotherapist has not experienced the procedure themselves, how can they authentically stand behind it? Clients sense this very clearly.

How are the lessons structured?

We offer a two-stage hypnotherapy training course, which is divided into three modules:

  • The first module of the hypnotherapy training concludes with the diploma "Seminar Leader Autogenic Training GTH". During the training to become an "Autogenic Training Instructor", the background to autogenic training is taught from an extended, depth-psychological and spiritual perspective. Other important topics are the psycho-physiological foundations. We therefore also call our training "Autogenic Training PLUS".
Autogenic training forms an important part of our hypnosis training because it can optimally accompany the therapy work later on. Through regular AT, the knowledge gained in hypnotherapy is anchored and thus integrated more consciously into everyday life. This is an important level, because the new insights from hypnosis must also be anchored in the physiology of the brain. A trance or self-hypnosis is very important for this. Anyone who recognizes the depths of autogenic training also sees in this method the possibility of supporting many people. It is not only a relaxation method, but also allows practitioners to get closer to themselves.
  • The modules of the 2nd and 3rd level of hypnotherapy training lead to the diploma "Depth Psychological-Analytical Hypnotherapist GTH".
In these two modules, hypnotherapy is used to guide participants into the depths of the unconscious, so to speak, into the realms of depth psychology. What is the unconscious? How does it work? Why is it one of the most complicated systems in the universe? These are topics that are addressed within the gth-specific extended developmental theory. Each developmental phase is taught in detail, its content, possible misprints and the consequences that may arise as a result.
Of course, the techniques and methods of H.I.T.T. are also passed on in detail and practiced, anchored, repeated and deepened. The personal teaching analysis, which ideally runs in parallel, will allow students to get to know themselves better and to work on their own blind spots. The theory of H.I.T.T. is also experienced first-hand in hypnotherapy.

What makes GTH special - what sets us apart from other schools?

The GTH specialty in hypnotherapy training is Autogenic Training PLUS - that means:

  • In addition to the original autogenic training (according to Schultz), psycho-physiological basics and depth psychological aspects are also taught, which are only taught by the GTH in this package.
  • In hypnotherapy training, we combine the theoretical foundations with practical work in seminars and working groups.
  • The GTH emphasizes a holistic approach (body-mind and soul) in conjunction with scientific findings and teachings (neurophysiology) as well as scientific/spiritual foundations (psychology, depth psychology).

What is expected in terms of preparation and follow-up work in addition to lessons?

Hypnotherapy students receive handouts during our theory lessons. These contain all the important and basic content as well as references for independent study and consolidation.
Our approach to learning is: independent study. We give students the opportunity to "study" hypnotherapy in the truest sense of the word. Credit points (credits) do not have to be earned with us. Our examinations are also not based on a "multiple choice" system.
The final theses of our students correspond to diploma theses. Prospective therapists for Depth Psychological Hypnosis GTH write their own theses under the supervision of a lecturer. The topic of the diploma thesis is not predetermined, but reflects the student's in-depth interest in hypnotherapy.

When and how do learning assessments take place?

Our lecturers observe and support the students during the working group days. They also ensure that the hypnotherapy material is learned and applied correctly.

How does therapeutic hypnosis work?

We work in two ways with the H.I.T.T.® method:

  • Life analysis in hypnosis
In hypnotherapy, we go back chronologically year by year on the timeline from the present to conception, working through what the unconscious perceives as relevant in the corresponding year of life.
  • Focal analysis in hypnosis
The focus is on a specific topic. Here too, hypnotherapy is person-centered, but a theme or focus will accompany the therapist and the client during hypnosis. The focus is discussed in detail with the therapist before therapy begins.

After a thorough anamnesis interview has taken place, where all the details of the therapy have been discussed and the therapist and client are in agreement, the actual hypnosis sessions begin. The course of the session is a short preliminary discussion in which the therapist finds out how the person has been after the last session. The focus is on insights, perceptions, etc. The steps in the person's development are made visible. This is followed by hypnosis for the respective year or what is pending according to the focal analysis. Hypnotherapy is followed by a short follow-up discussion.

What are the goals of GTH Switzerland in hypnosis training?

We want graduates of hypnosis training to be empowered:

  • The H.I.T.T.® method. This hypnotherapy method is one of the most comprehensive and profound therapies in the field of hypnosis. It is suitable for the treatment of psychological, physical and psychosomatic illnesses and for personality development. The focus is on conscious hypnosis in combination with depth psychology.
  • Good attitude of the therapists: An important prerequisite for the success of hypnotherapy is the attitude of the therapists: With H.I.T.T.® you accompany your clients as free as possible from suggestive influence.
  • Expand the client's world view: In Hypno-Integrative Depth Psychology Therapy (H.I.T.T.®), we therapists experience time and again that it is essential to reach and process the roots of imprints so that the client's world view can expand. By changing the view of what has been experienced, the parts that have become conscious in therapy can be integrated into life. In this way, the effect of hypnotherapy can be maintained in the long term. Hypnosis in H.I.T.T.® is also known as "conscious hypnosis" because it helps us to delve into the depths of the soul in order to make the unconscious parts conscious through hypnotherapy.
  • Rapid deep relaxation through autogenic training: Autogenic training gives you the opportunity to achieve a relaxed to deeply relaxed state within a very short time. The "Autogenic training seminar leader" diploma course is suitable for you if you want to use and/or teach this method yourself.

How do the lecturers experience the participants?

It always depends on what kind of people are in the hypnotherapy training. It is always fascinating to see how the groups develop their own dynamic and how the participants interact with each other. It is extremely motivating for me when I have participants who ask a lot of questions, are curious and want to discover these depths.

What can hypnosis therapists do after hypnotherapy training?

After completing hypnotherapy training, you will be able to provide people with professional and well-founded support. You will be able to recognize the background to their problems and blockages and use hypnosis to provide professional support in dealing with them. They can lead courses in autogenic training and adapt them to the respective clients and their own needs. Awareness of feelings and physical reactions to them in hypnotherapy form the basis for dissolving blockages.

  • The school is located directly on Albisrieder Platz.

How to find the best hypnosis training?

To find the best hypnosis training, you should pay attention to the following:

  • Make sure that the schools are recognized (e.g. by ASCA).
  • We recommend making sure that the hypnosis training course has a certain number of hours. Then it can be assumed that it is a well-founded hypnotherapy training. At the GTH, we have a training period of 415 teaching hours, plus a personal teaching analysis of approx. 60 hours (varying according to age) and practical work in small groups. Our hypnosis training averages a total of approx. 520 hours.
  • A personal discussion with the school in advance helps you to recognize who you are dealing with. And also whether the course content suits you personally. We at the GTH invite all interested parties to a personal interview, as it is important for us to check who would like to attend our school. This is an important process for us in order to be able to maintain a certain level and guarantee a certain quality of education.
  • We also recommend paying attention to the ethical principles of the schools of hypnotherapy. The GTH has set itself the goal of To counteract the misuse of hypnosis.

Why should prospective students opt for hypnosis training at GTH Switzerland?

There are several reasons why prospective students should decide to train in hypnosis at GTH. We focus more on depth than speed. In-depth knowledge is essential for understanding the human psyche and human behavior. The human psyche is perhaps the most complicated system in the universe that cannot or should not simply be reprogrammed when it comes to meaning, understanding, comprehension and depth. It is important to us to impart knowledge in hypnotherapy, basic psychology and psychophysiological principles. We are not a training center through which participants can obtain a diploma in hypnotherapy in 3 days.

What are the advantages for graduates of the hypnosis training course at GTH Switzerland? What further development opportunities are there after the hypnotherapist training?

There are several opportunities for further development after the hypnotherapist training:

  • Even after successfully completing the training, the GTH is available to all participants for questions, exchanges and, in particular, for supervision in hypnotherapy.
  • The GTH offers further training seminars so that future graduates/therapists can continue to develop their skills.
  • Graduates/therapists can also become members of the GTH and thus benefit from seminar discounts.
  • GTH members are automatically networked internationally with the other I-GTH (international GTH) schools.
  • GTH members benefit from the network, in particular clients can be referred here for hypnotherapy.
