Foreign trade specialist (export specialist) with federal certificate

The foreign trade specialist is active in the export of goods. As an expert in foreign trade, a sound knowledge of international forwarding, customs and VAT law, international marketing, foreign trade financing and international law is required.

 

Foreign trade specialists (formerly known as export specialists) can work as specialists or generalists in companies that export or import. In administration, they can work in order processing, internal sales, export sales, shipping, distribution logistics, supply chain management or dispatch. In addition, the processing of documents at internationally active banks, where bank guarantees, documentary collections or letters of credit are issued, is a possible area of responsibility. Insurance, tax and customs issues, export risk guarantees and exchange rate hedging are also areas of training. An export specialist can work in forwarding companies, logistics companies and transport insurance companies. The export specialist is able to recognize the risks and opportunities of international trade, speaks several languages and can adapt to the different customs of international customers and negotiate accordingly. The international market is known and the potential of target markets abroad can be recognized on the basis of sound marketing knowledge.

 

The export specialist is also familiar with Switzerland's foreign trade and its framework conditions for international trade. He clarifies legal issues relating to sales law and jurisdiction, laying the foundations for the proper conclusion and smooth processing of contracts with customers from abroad. The export specialist is used to extensive clarifications in sales processing with regard to taxes, customs duties and insurance, and he promotes the company's sales with his specialist knowledge.

Questions and answers

Für die Weiterbildung zum Exportfachmann mit Zertifikat ist eine Berufspraxis im Aussenhandel nicht zwingend notwendig, selbstverständlich jedoch von Vorteil. Bei einem Kurs als Vorbereitung auf die Berufsprüfung sieht dies etwas anders aus. Dort wird eine mindestens zweijährige Berufserfahrung im Aussenhandel nach Abschluss einer Ausbildung, einer Handelsmittelschule oder einer Maturität als Voraussetzung für die erwartet.
Bei einem Zertifikatskurs zum Exportfachmann / Importfachmann oder Aussenhandelsfachmann, wie diese Ausbildung nun neu heisst, handelt es sich um eine Fortbildung, die Ihnen bei Bestehen der Abschlussprüfung ein schulinternen Abschlusszeugnis verleiht, etwa ein „Basiswissen im Aussenhandel“ Zertifikat der Höheren Fachschule für Aussenwirtschaft. Dabei handelt es sich jedoch, anders als bei einem eidgenössischen Fachausweis, welchen Sie bei Besten der Berufsprüfung erlangen, nicht um eine eidgenössisch reglementierte Weiterbildung, die Sie zu weiterführenden Bildungslehrgängen, etwa Höheren Fachprüfungen, berechtigt.
Die Weiterbildung zum Exportfachmann / zur Exportfachfrau setzt neben einem EFZ, einem Handelsmittelschuldiplom oder einem Maturitätszeugnis weitere zwei Jahre Berufserfahrung im Aussenhandel voraus, was entweder einer Tätigkeit  im Import, Export, in der Spedition, dem Transithandel oder dem Internationalen Handel entspricht. Für Ihre zukünftige Tätigkeit sollten Sie sowohl teamfähig sein, als auch Führung übernehmen können, verantwortungsbewusst und serviceorientiert sein, mathematisch und kalkulatorisch, sowie sprachlich und fremdsprachlich, begabt. Ein offenes und freundliches Wesen, Pünktlichkeit und akkurates Handeln entsprechen Ihrem Wesen, ebenso wie Organisationstalent und den Drang, sich immer wieder auf den neusten Stand betreffend Gesetzen und Richtlinien (Zollabfertigung, Dokumente, Zielmärkte,…) zu bringen.
Die Dauer der Ausbildungen zum Aussenhandelsfachmann / zur Aussenhandelsfachfrau BP (ehemals Exportfachmann /-frau / Importfachmann/-frau BP unterscheidet sich stark. So erstreckt sich der Zertifikatslehrgang für Exportfachleute über nicht einmal zwei Monate, der Vorbereitungslehrgang auf die Berufsprüfung dauert hingegen ein bis anderthalb Jahre.
