English is clearly and indisputably the most important language in the world today. As a result of globalization, this is also having a strong impact on the economy. More and more employers want their employees to learn English and have at least a basic knowledge of the language.
The number of job offers that explicitly require a sound knowledge of English is constantly increasing and accounts for more than 50% of all job advertisements on the market. At management level in particular, English is one of the most important requirements in practically all sectors. In most cases, business fluent English is considered an absolute minimum. Learning English is therefore an absolute must, especially for managers.
We have researched which professions and industries place particularly high demands on applicants in terms of English language skills. Unsurprisingly, engineers, IT and marketing specialists as well as management and personnel consultants are hardly considered competitive without a sound knowledge of English. Anyone who works here should learn English. However, doctors, teachers, administrative and social workers still manage well without English.
It can be observed that the number of academics with high foreign language requirements has been very high for many years and has therefore hardly changed. At the same time, there has been a rapid increase in foreign language requirements at intermediate qualification level in recent years. English can therefore be studied at various qualification levels.
If you don't have at least a basic knowledge of English, you miss out on many opportunities for interesting jobs. More and more companies are even demanding good language skills and reject applicants who do not have the appropriate language level. English is even the official company language at more and more large companies in Switzerland. Investing in your own English skills by learning English is therefore essential in many industries in order to obtain interesting jobs or management positions.
