How do I become a computer scientist EFZ? What opportunities do I have as an adult?

Adults who have trained in another profession but have been working in IT for some time (without the corresponding training) and would like to change careers have various options for obtaining a Federal Certificate of Competence in Computer Science (EFZ): via a shortened school-based training program, a shortened apprenticeship, through independent preparation for the final apprenticeship examination (qualification procedure) or through recognition of previous achievements (validation procedure).

The shortened school-based training to become a computer scientist EFZ

The EFZ in IT is one of the basic vocational qualifications that can be acquired in two ways: via an apprenticeship in a company or at a school. This applies to young people on their first vocational training path as well as to adults who join later. If they meet certain requirements, adults can complete a shortened school-based training course leading to an EFZ in IT. Such courses are offered by public and private schools.

The shortened school-based training is possible in all three specializations (application development, systems engineering, business informatics). The training takes place alongside your work: on the one hand, you attend school, where you learn vocational skills. You will gain practical experience at your workplace or in an internship company. At the end, you will take the regular final examination and receive the Federal Certificate of Competence in Computer Science EFZ.
