Qualified social insurance experts are employed at senior management level in insurance companies and public administrations, in social services, private sector companies, compensation funds or in human resources. They are the point of contact for authorities, employers and insured persons in the areas of pension provision and reintegration (disability insurance, maternity compensation, old-age and survivors' insurance, compulsory accident insurance, etc.).

The further training course for social insurance experts prepares participants for the HFP and therefore trains them in the following subjects:

• AHV, BV, ALV, KV, UV or IV (freely selectable specialty)
• Law and organization
• Social policy
• International social insurance
• Coordination

Further training to become a certified social insurance expert generally takes two semesters.

Persons wishing to take part in further training to become a certified social insurance expert must have passed a professional examination for social insurance specialists (social insurance specialist with a federal certificate). At least one year of professional experience in the social insurance sector after obtaining the certificate is also required before the final examination.

After completing their training, participants take the Higher Professional Examination (HFP), which, if successfully passed, allows them to use the federally recognized title of "certified social insurance expert".

The further training course to become a certified social insurance expert is a part-time course that usually takes place weekly (sometimes also on Saturdays) and thus allows you to continue working, albeit in a somewhat reduced capacity.
